I think we’re all ready to get going.  Kind of a rough night of sleep - head’s still draining.  The altitude and cool mornings haven’t helped me get rid of this gunk.  I think Sudan may cure that.

Thank you for the encouragment.  Each day the Lord’s been giving me a verse to hang on to.  Today it’s Psalm 55:22.

All my love,

Daniel

For all of you who are praying for the team - I pray this ministers to your heart! More updates follow!

TRAVELING ON YOUR KNEES
Last night I took a journey
To a land across the seas.
I didn’t go by ship or plane
I traveled on my knees.

I saw so many people there
In bondage to their sin,
And Jesus told me I should go,
That there were souls to win.

But I said “Jesus, I can’t go
To lands across the seas.”
He answered quickly, “Yes, you can
By traveling on your knees.”

He said, “You pray, I’ll meet the need.
You call, and I will hear.
It’s up to you to be concerned
For lost souls far and near.”

And so I did; knelt in prayer,
Gave up some hours of ease,
And with the Savior by my side,
I traveled on my knees.

As I prayed on, I saw souls saved
And twisted persons healed,
I saw God’s workers strength renewed
While laboring in the field.

I said, “Yes Lord, I’ll take the job.
Your heart I want to please.
I’ll heed Your call and swiftly go
By traveling on my knees.”

We’re at the little airport waiting for our MAF plane to take us out.  This is so exciting!
(Pray for settled stomachs as this will be a bumpy ride.)
Lots of love,

Day 3 in Nairobi.  Peter picked us up this morning so that our team could visit a couple named Kip and Melissa, an American couple who serve as missionaries at Calvary Chapel Ongata Rongai.  They are a very kind and generous couple who blessed us with a meal and tools to take into Sudan.  They also live on a beautiful piece of property that overlooks the Nairobi Wildlife Preserve.

We were also pleased to see that Peter had brought Cindy with him to pick us up!  Cindy is one of the two American missionaries serving in Nyimbuli, Sudan.  She is in Nairobi to help one of her support staff get medical treatment at a hospital.  It was very helpful to get Cindy’s insights about the work we’ll be doing in Nyimbuli.

Once back at our base in Nairobi it was time to pack everything up so that we can fly out early tomorrow morning.  Because our little plane is at capacity each person is only allowed to bring 40 pounds with them.  That’s a challenge for some!  Looking forward to what tomorrow will bring…

We’re about 15 minutes from dinner time, so I thought I’d get out a quick email.
We’ve had a good day.  We were at our compound this AM - waiting once again…We were supposed to be picked up about 9 AM, but that ended up happening about 11:30 instead.  Oh well, the nice thing about Africa is that nobody actually expects you to be on time!
We went out to an area called Ongotu Rongi - very near where the Calvary Chapel is.  There’s a missionary couple from California that live out in that area so we went to visit with them.  Very nice couple.  They rent an apartment in this beautiful homestead that literally overlooks a national wildlife preserve (where you can safari).  The place had terraced gardens and stone cut buildings - pretty amazing!  We spent 3 or 4 hours with them and then headed back to our base.
This evening we’ve all packed our bags for our flight into Sudan tomorrow. Would you believe that I’ve got everything I need fit into my backpack?  Now it’s so long to perfect climate Nairobi…hello to the cooker called Nyinbuli!  We’re excited though.  We’re being picked up @ 6:30 AM and then we’ll fly out ASAP.  I think we’ll be in Sudan for 11 days.
This setup in Nairobi is perfect!  And the climate here is similar to ours back home.  There’s a constant flow of missionary families coming and going, and there’s all kinds of ministry opportunities in the area

Dear Prayer Chain participants, family and friends,

The following update is from Rod Clemmer a member of the Sudan 2808 team heading into Sudan
tomorrow.

“This morning we had a good time of fellowship with the three team members from Shelton, WA who
arrived late last night.  We spent most of the morning relaxing and recouping from jet lag.
In the afternoon we were blessed to visit a preschool for the poorest of poor children in one of Nairobi’s
outlying communities.  These are children who live with 7 or 8 people in tiny tin shacks.  If they don’t go to
preschool then they’ll be behind the other kids in primary school who’s families could afford preschool and
many would end up on the street at 7 or 8 years old.  This school is run by Miriam, the wife of Pastor Gitu of
Calvary Chapel Ongata Rongai.

After visiting the school we went to visit Gladys, the young girl whom pastor Gary met and visited with in the
video. You can view this on the Safe Harbor website at http://safeharbor.us/site/projects/. Gladys suffers
the effects of TB and Meningitis, and is left tied to a fence for her own safety while her mother goes to work
during the day.  Gladys is receiving treatments for her condition through Safe Harbor and Pastor Gitu and
she seems to be slowly responding to them.

As we visited Gladys, the other children of this small slum area also came out to see us.  Seeing and
playing with those kids was a great blessing to our team!”

Good morning,

It’s about 10 after 5 AM here; I’m hoping to see that sunrise you spoke of as I’ve only
seen it on the plane coming in so far.  Nairobi’s about 5500 ft elevation, so mornings
tend to be cloudy with the mountain clouds…

I’m sleeping well, and I think most of the team is too.  Today we’re going to be going
out to pick up some tools to take to Sudan (and a makeshift toilet! :-). I think the
teams really enjoyed the R and R but we’re ready to get into Sudan and get to work.
I was told yesterday that it’s so hot there that there’s a large portion of the day that
you don’t do heavy labor…but I know the One who controls even that… ;-)
Thanks for asking about my cold; it’s still hanging around - just in my head though.

Daniel
