Thanks to all of you for your prayers!

Karen got a call from Daniel this morning. The team is safe in Sudan. Everyone is fine and rejoicing to be there and have a tremendous peace. It is extremely HOT . . . about 120 degrees and 90 in the shade.  They are sleeping in tents but as long as it doesn’t rain they plan to sleep outside because it is cooler.

Daniel has a snake in his tent! A local is trying to remove it! It is non-poisonous! He also had a 3 inch spider crawl across his face!

The first day of work they made a lot of progress . . some locals are helping . . but they have to stop often because of the extreme heat. Daniel still has a head cold too.

This is from Safe Harbor. There are a few minor inconsistencies here:

May 29th, 2008

A team consisting of people from Calvary Chapel Vancouver and people from Washington had arrived fine in Nyinbouli Sudan yesterday May 28th.

This morning Pastor Daniel called at about 4:30 am and said the team was working along with some local people on the foundation of the clinic. Getting it prepared for it to be filled in with concrete. The old clinic was also open today and patients were being seen and treated.

It is “really hot” said Daniel. “90 in the shade 105 in the sun. There was some sprinkling of rain last night. But today is totally clear and it is hot.”

The team slept fairly well and was taking a break from the heat. They will resume work later in the day when it is cooler. They are staying hydrated and watching out for each other as they work.

Daniel went on to say that a 4 inch spider had visited him during the night and that a small snake was discovered this morning, currently still somewhere in his hut. It was being taken care of by some staff.

Pastor Daniel said “Tell them at home that I love them”.

Also for those of you who have been praying for Abuk, the cook that went out to Nairobi with Cindy. Daniel was hearing from Charity that the operation was a success. That there was no cancer and that the doctors were able to get all of the mass. Praise the Lord.

I think we’re all ready to get going.  Kind of a rough night of sleep - head’s still draining.  The altitude and cool mornings haven’t helped me get rid of this gunk.  I think Sudan may cure that.

Thank you for the encouragment.  Each day the Lord’s been giving me a verse to hang on to.  Today it’s Psalm 55:22.

All my love,

Daniel

For all of you who are praying for the team - I pray this ministers to your heart! More updates follow!

TRAVELING ON YOUR KNEES
Last night I took a journey
To a land across the seas.
I didn’t go by ship or plane
I traveled on my knees.

I saw so many people there
In bondage to their sin,
And Jesus told me I should go,
That there were souls to win.

But I said “Jesus, I can’t go
To lands across the seas.”
He answered quickly, “Yes, you can
By traveling on your knees.”

He said, “You pray, I’ll meet the need.
You call, and I will hear.
It’s up to you to be concerned
For lost souls far and near.”

And so I did; knelt in prayer,
Gave up some hours of ease,
And with the Savior by my side,
I traveled on my knees.

As I prayed on, I saw souls saved
And twisted persons healed,
I saw God’s workers strength renewed
While laboring in the field.

I said, “Yes Lord, I’ll take the job.
Your heart I want to please.
I’ll heed Your call and swiftly go
By traveling on my knees.”

We’re at the little airport waiting for our MAF plane to take us out.  This is so exciting!
(Pray for settled stomachs as this will be a bumpy ride.)
Lots of love,

Daniel

We’re about 15 minutes from dinner time, so I thought I’d get out a quick email.
We’ve had a good day.  We were at our compound this AM - waiting once again…We were supposed to be picked up about 9 AM, but that ended up happening about 11:30 instead.  Oh well, the nice thing about Africa is that nobody actually expects you to be on time!
We went out to an area called Ongotu Rongi - very near where the Calvary Chapel is.  There’s a missionary couple from California that live out in that area so we went to visit with them.  Very nice couple.  They rent an apartment in this beautiful homestead that literally overlooks a national wildlife preserve (where you can safari).  The place had terraced gardens and stone cut buildings - pretty amazing!  We spent 3 or 4 hours with them and then headed back to our base.
This evening we’ve all packed our bags for our flight into Sudan tomorrow. Would you believe that I’ve got everything I need fit into my backpack?  Now it’s so long to perfect climate Nairobi…hello to the cooker called Nyinbuli!  We’re excited though.  We’re being picked up @ 6:30 AM and then we’ll fly out ASAP.  I think we’ll be in Sudan for 11 days.
This setup in Nairobi is perfect!  And the climate here is similar to ours back home.  There’s a constant flow of missionary families coming and going, and there’s all kinds of ministry opportunities in the area
